Kingsville, TX-Nature's Own RV Park

We had a blast in Kingsville!  There was plenty to do in the few days that we were there.

First stop was the train depot.  The first train pulled into this station in 1904!  It is still a terminal today although passenger trains no longer stop there.

Then we stopped by the famous King Ranch.  Did you know that the King Ranch is the second largest private ranch in the WORLD?!  It is larger than Delaware and Manhattan combined at 825,000 acres!  I also found out that it takes 1847 gallons of water to put 1 pound of beef on our table.  Wow!

We took the tour, but it was not really the best idea for the kiddos.  And as I think back now, I know that I have gone on that tour more than once as a child and I don't remember anything they told me.  BUT this time, at this age, I found it interesting!  Now what the kids did enjoy was.....

From there it was on to one of the big highlights of the trip:

the Kleberg County Airport!  The airport is run by my Aunt Judy and Uncle Mike so we were able to get an up close look at some of the planes and watch the daily operations.

The kids enjoyed being able to sit in the cockpits of a two-seater and a four-seater plane and radio in to the office. And then...

Up, Up, and Away!!! Uncle Mike and Aunt Judy were so kind to take us up in their plane!  This was Jordan's first flight ever and Jacob's first flight in a private plane.  They were so excited (and a little nervous)!

A little later in the week, we went back to the airport to visit as people began flying in for a local event. There were so many planes for this small airport!  Just when I thought there wasn't any more room, they would squeeze another in!

I could not capture a picture with all of the planes.   There are even more behind me.  It was a fun day to watch the employees in action!  They worked so well together and everything ran so smoothly!

Our final place to visit was the John Conner Museum on the Texas A&M Kingsville Campus.  It was a nice little place and it was free (yeah)!  Alongside the exhibits, they had some "hands on" areas the kids were able to explore, including..

All in all it was a good week.  We made some more new friends in the RV park and the park was nice but we do look forward to moving to a more natural setting with some room for the kids to run around. :)

McKinney Falls State Park Austin, TX

Week 1 is now under our belts. After forgetting our crock pot on at our brick home, discovering a leaking toilet THEN a leaking sink in our RV and retrieving a few forgotten items, we began to settle in. We are so fortunate that Greg is good at making repairs because if we have to take our RV in, it means we would be without our home!

We spent the week getting back in the groove of homeschooling and visiting with a few more friends before heading out. We had a wonderful time!

Our kids got a Wii game console for Christmas and had not yet been able to play with it because we did not have the right cord at our brick home. It is now set up in the trailer and for those who were wondering... Yes! There is actually enough room to play the Wii in an RV!

The kids made some new friends, Harrison and Cheyenne, at the campsite next to us. They played together every waking moment that either group was not doing school. They were very sweet kids, especially Cheyenne who made Jordan and I rainbow loom bracelets after finding out what our favorite colors are!

The kids found this in the brush near us and rushed to show me. I, of course, took a quick glance around and then rushed the other way!!

The falls were flowing nicely this visit!

The park has a nice visitor center with some very fun things for the kids to check out. Unfortunately, it is still closed due to being flooded during the Halloween floods. I still have a hard time imagining the water up that high!

I think this is one of the prettiest areas of the park where the bike trail winds around underneath the canopy of the trees and through the picnic areas. Sadly, it too has been affected by the floods with downed trees all around.

Lift Off!

After two years of planning, we have FINALLY taken off!  As many of you know (because you have heard us talk about it all of the time) we are so excited to have this opportunity!  Our friends and family will be missed, so we hope that this blog will be one way to help us keep in touch.

The move began on Friday and took three long, BUSY days.  As a safeguard, we will spend our first week in Austin.  That will allow us to run back home to grab what we forgot and do what we needed to do, but overlooked.

I have added a video tour of our fifth wheel so all can see our new home.  Fortunately, I was able to record it before we packed all of our stuff into EVERY inch of it!
