Baltimore, Maryland-Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine

On our way to Pennsylvania, we made a quick stop at Fort McHenry in Baltimore.  This fort is known as the birthplace of the National Anthem.  The Americans triumphed in a battle with the British in the War of 1812 and as they raised their flag over the fort, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write The Star Spangled Banner.

We listened to a great ranger talk on the history of the fort and the flag

then toured the fort and the museum, completing the Jr. Ranger Program along the way.

It was an interesting stop on our journey to PA
